We cannot recommend AirBnB enough.  Duncan and Cindy has literally traveled the world staying at AirBnB's – from grand mansions to boats to cottages on the English coast.  San Francisco is where AirBnB started, so listings in the city and Marin are plentiful and fantastic.  I recommend getting a big house with other guests!
